There is no file-size limit imposed by MeowShare's server — transfers run at your network's speed and are limited mainly by browser memory and connection stability. Interrupted transfers can't be resumed, so very large files are best sent over a stable connection.

Yes — anyone running MeowShare on the same visible network can appear on your radar and receive a transfer if they accept it. That openness is the point, which is why devices are visible to their network and why you can rename yours to anything.

Automatic discovery requires both devices to look like they share the same visible network. Guest Wi-Fi, captive portals, mobile hotspots, VPNs, and some office or school networks hide devices from each other even when they sit side by side. Use QR or six-character code pairing instead — it connects two devices that already know about each other.

One device opens a private room and shows a QR code plus a six-character code. The other device scans the QR code with its camera or types the code to join that room. Codes use an alphabet without easy-to-confuse characters (no 0/O or 1/I), and rooms expire after 30 minutes without activity.

No. Both devices must be able to load meowshare.app, which means they need connectivity to the site. The transfer itself then travels directly between the two browsers when the network allows peer-to-peer traffic.

No — normal transfers travel from one browser to the other over a direct WebRTC connection and are never uploaded to cloud storage. The service only helps the two devices find each other and set up the connection, and stores nothing. If your network blocks direct connections, the transfer will not complete rather than being routed through a server.

MeowShare uses the browser's standard WebRTC stack: data channels are encrypted with DTLS as part of how WebRTC works, and connections to the site use HTTPS/WebSockets over TLS. MeowShare is not marketed as an end-to-end-encrypted product, because signaling passes through a service we operate. It is designed for everyday files on networks you trust, not for regulated data.

MeowShare is a progressive web app. On iOS and iPadOS, open it in Safari, then use Share → “Add to Home Screen”. On desktop Chrome and Edge, use the install icon in the address bar. On Android, choose Chrome's “Install app” option. An install gives MeowShare its own icon and window — transfers themselves are unchanged.

Rooms expire after 30 minutes without activity. Because MeowShare has no accounts and stores no transfers, there is no history to clear on the service afterwards.
